Through a series of experimental drawings for a Fashion visualisation project for Fred Perry, I developed a style that I felt encapsulated the brand. The linear drawing against the fluid, vibrant brush strokes represents Fred Perry’s contemporary energy and clean sharp aesthetic.
I participated in a trip to Ghana in 2011. I designed the logo, which was used to promote fundraising events and was printed onto T-shirts.
My experience of working to a live brief has proven that the functionality and professionalism of Graphic Design suits my creativity and strong work ethic. When developing branding and wayfinding ideas for a new building, keeping in regular contact with the client was vital. I set up a blog, which allowed the architect to see my ideas as they developed.
In groups of 3 we had to devise and run a 2-day workshop at a local secondary school as part of a community project. After the workshops, we used Final Cut to realise the pupil’s work into animations, these were shown in a production at The Ashcroft Theatre.
I visited the exhibition, ‘Shadow catchers: camera less photography’ at the V&A museum which influenced my use of dark room photography in this ‘Deconstruct, Reconstruct’ project. I chose to explore the affects that environmental issues have on a community, and how a society then has to reconstruct itself. Deforestation is a very relevant topic; this reinforces the potential of visual communication to raise awareness of current issues.
As an initial start point for my Flesh project, I visited the exhibition Skin at The Wellcome Museum. Sophie Ristelhuebers’s work provoked a lot of questions and inspired me to look at the human figure in this trial of a woman’s back. I used light, delicate materials to capture the exposed vulnerability in her photography.
Through exploration in a broad range of Graphics briefs and independent work I am eager to push my concepts and learn techniques that will enable me to realise them by studying Graphic design at degree level.
